What is the best book you’ve read in the last year?

Besides the Bible, it is RT Kendall’s book Believing God which is on Hebrews 11. I have read it several times. There are several others but this one is great.

Who is the most inspiring person in history (besides Jesus) to you, and why?

Paul of the New Testament because once converted he never looked back. He was so unmoved by his circumstances concerning his faith. The classic statement is “ That I might know him (Jesus) and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his suffering…” (Philippians 3:10). He is the most influential gospel character to me. His daily dying to himself had to be the secret to his ability to stay focused on the purpose of God. His testimony to King Aggripa in Acts 26 :19 is most inspiring; “ I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,…”.

What are you listening to most on your iPod right now?

Nothing. I can’t find it at the moment.

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

Besides the Lord, Larry Stockstill as far as ministry goes.

If you weren’t in ministry, what would you be doing?

Running my own businesses.

What’s your favorite hobby or activity?

Racquetball and hunting.

What is one interesting fact that not many people know about you?

I was born in London, England.


Pastor Harris was born in England, as his family was a military family, but he was raised in South Georgia. He went on to attend South Georgia College, where he met Kaye, who was from Baxley, GA. In fact, it was on a “date” with Kaye to Wednesday night prayer meeting that he gave his heart to the Lord. After Kaye received her nursing degree, they were married on November 22, 1975. Subsequently, Pastor went on to Lee University and The Church of God Seminary.

He began full time ministry in 1976 serving in various staff positions at Baxley Church of God and North Cleveland Church of God.

The couple accepted their first full time pastorate in 1985 at Southwest Church of God, in Indianapolis, IN; and then came to East Ridge Church of God in 1994.

Pastor and Kaye have 3 children – Jason, Jodi and Chad.

Jason is married to Brandi and resides in South Georgia. Jason is a graduate of Lee University and currently owns several businesses. Jason and Brandi have 2 daughters Adelyn and Abrah.

Jodi also is a graduate of Lee University, as well as a graduate of Florida Coastal School of Law. She presently resides here in Chattanooga.

Chad is currently attending UTC and serves as the Youth Pastor at The Crossing.
